Nurse Care

Our nurses are the steady hands and warm hearts behind much of the day-to-day care at North St Ives Medical Practice.

Your Health, Personally Supported

Practice nurses at North St Ives Medical Practice are integral to ensuring every patient experience is smooth, supportive and attentive to individual needs.

Serving as a vital bridge between you and our GPs (and skin cancer specialists), they offer reassurance, clarify clinical information and facilitate timely follow-ups.

With a focus on patient education, proactive communication and hands-on care coordination, our nurses streamline your journey—making sure you receive the right support at the right time while fostering a welcoming, caring environment.

Health Assessments

Under GP direction, nurses conduct targeted checks—such as 45–49-year, 75+ and heart-health assessments—by gathering vitals, weight, BMI and risk-factor data. They provide clear explanations during the process and promptly alert GPs to any areas of concern, ensuring your health screening is both thorough and well-coordinated.

Spirometry & Lung Function Testing

Under GP supervision, nurses set up and guide you through spirometry and peak-flow testing for COPD or asthma monitoring. They ensure you use the correct technique, record accurate measurements and relay results (with contextual information) to your GP to inform further management.

Immunisations & Vaccination Clinics

Nurses administer childhood, adolescent and adult vaccines—adhering to best-practice protocols—while answering your questions, monitoring for any reactions and handling all documentation. They also manage recall systems, scheduling upcoming doses and sending reminders so your immunisation records remain current.

Wound Care

In a single visit, nurses assess wounds, perform regular dressing changes and monitor for infection—providing clear instructions on home care. They coordinate with GPs when needed to address any complications promptly, ensuring you receive comprehensive, timely treatment.

Minor Procedure Support

Nurses support skin cancer specialists and GPs during in-practice procedures—preparing sterile instruments, assisting throughout excisions or biopsies, and managing post-procedure care. Their presence ensures each procedure is safe, efficient and as comfortable as possible.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) Recording

Performing and preparing ECGs under GP interpretation, nurses place leads, calibrate equipment and perform basic troubleshooting. This expedites cardiovascular assessment and monitoring so your GP can review tracings and plan next steps without delay.

Recall Management

Nurses maintain and review our recall systems for immunisations, health assessments, chronic-disease reviews and cervical screening. By sending timely reminders and assisting with appointment scheduling, they ensure you stay on track with preventive care—without extra effort on your part.

Patient Triage & Telephone Advice

Handling incoming calls, nurses triage urgent issues (e.g., red-flag symptoms) and provide initial advice or arrange same-day nurse/GP appointments. This ensures urgent concerns are addressed swiftly and appropriately, guiding you to the right level of care when you need it.
